Grid No. is an exploration of routine and form through a sustained engagement with the grid. Each page is marked with a stenciled or stamped title, “grid no.,” followed by a unique sequential number from 01 to 98 in the bottom left corner. After these marks, I drew a grid by hand, sometimes quickly, sometimes layered and complex, using a variety of tools. Over time, the page preparation and numbering became a framework for exploring variation within structure. These 98 drawings have since been developed into prints and backgrounds for other works, extending the grids beyond their original pages and purpose.
