The 14th Floor > Marking Time
[official and miscellaneous stamps]
Stamps annotate, organize, officiate, and sometimes disrupt the visual language of work. The stamps — "AP" (Artist’s Proof), "HC" (Hors Commerce), "Work in Progress," along with others for sketches, prints, scans, and collages — are a practical approach to consistency. They seem to catalog effort, signal provisional states, and mark typically unnoticed thresholds between experiments, drafts and finished work. Still there are other stamps, images from drawings, travel souvenirs, clip art, bitmaps, gifts that are all about fascination and craze. These impressions shift between obsession and form. They are pressed and layered into compositions, like the complications of a time piece.
Stamps are small but persistent—registering thinking as making, and making as a process that imprints rather than arrives.
All works are stamped archival ink on 3"x3" 160gsm paper
